Esviel Jeffers
My creative process is inter- and multidisciplinary, with works that are nourished by objects that I find, combine or invent, either physically or graphically. I discover them along the way: on the street, in my readings, in my head... They are objects that belong to certain landscapes or events. Their role matters, too. Everything helps me to build a narrative inspired by the socio-political context and based on my own experiences. Being forced into exile has prompted me to incessantly question the exclusions, separation and vulnerability of the individual on the move.
Personal Experience
The objects allow me to trace a journey through industrial sites: seemingly limitless horizons of our local, global, and political landscapes. I try to incorporate levels of content into an artistic production that is in constant experimentation and rooted in my own existence. The idea is paramount. Aesthetic solutions are complements to make visible the ruminations with which I try to interpret personal and collective realities.
My Inspiring Story
My proposals as a visual artist have always been linked to political and social conjunctures based on my experiences. Being forced to leave my country has prompted me to ask myself different questions and to articulate them in relation to the exclusions, separations and vulnerability of the individual. Today, as an Afro-Caribbean migrant, I wanted to add content fabrics to an artistic project that is constantly being experimented with. I will always consider myself an emerging artist, in the sense that I am not interested in developing a fixed aesthetic and theme in my works. I am captivated and driven by the challenge of constantly nourishing myself with new forms and discourses in the attempt to reinterpret one's own life.
